Olympic Sport & Art Contest Athens 2004

In 2003 Henk Vierveijzer won, with his canvas: ‘Hurray for 4’, the national Sport and Art contest of the Olympic Games.

The jury report read as follows:

The winner of the Ernst & Young Prize: Henk Vierveijzer.

All the contributions for this competition were varied in style and choice within their thematic approach, thereby satisfying the requirements of the judges.

Henk Vierveijzer’s painting  stands out because of its expressive simplicity, visible idiosyncrasy, and has a consistent colour composition which is maintained throughout the smallest details.  Furthermore, his choice of subject: ‘participation is more important than winning’ is a good representation of the Olympic concept.

This painting represents the optimum freshness of the Dutch arts. Therefore the jury has, unanimously, chosen Henk Vierveijzer as the winner of the Olympic Sport $ Art Contest Athens 2004.

Subsequently Vierveijzer achieved 5th place in the Olympic world contest with this work.
